Welcome to Nocturne Falls, where there’s a supernatural on every corner, if you have the magic to see them.
Trick Scanlon is introduced to town when a playful horse nearly drowns him. Saved by a mermaid’s song, he’s just looking for a place to catch his breath. He never expects to be so drawn to his beautiful savior.
Daria Don’t-Call-Me-A-Mermaid Czernovitch has changed so much her stalker won’t ever find her. She has great friends – witches, gargoyles, and fairies – and she feels safe… until a former Army Ranger turned country music star pulls her into his spotlight.
Can he find his own magic? And will his fame threaten the anonymity she values so much? They make sweet harmony together, but one sour note could ruin it all.
Magic Song A Nocturne Falls Universe story edition by Sela Carsen Kristen Painter Paranormal Romance eBooks
5/5I love the Nocturne Falls books so I knew I wanted to read this story set in the same universe. It's only 63 pages long but a lot happens, its so very short but sweet. I love a good mermaid-esque story so this was a lot of fun. My favorite character was Bubba another mythological being that surprised me.
Daria and Trick are quite the couple and I love the magic they make together. Like I said it's short but the story still pulls you right in. Their backgrounds are intriguing and make for some great mythology.
All the other characters are well done too and it all feels true to the Nocturne Falls Universe.

Magic Song A Nocturne Falls Universe story edition by Sela Carsen Kristen Painter Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Magic’s Song by Sela Carsen; Part of the Nocturne Falls Universe
As will all my reviews there are no spoilers and no story recap. This short story is written in third person and has no explicit language or sexual scene. While this is a part of the Nocturne Falls Universe created by Kristen Painter it can easily be read as a standalone without having read any other book in the series and it can be read in no particular order if you haven’t (for some strange reason) already gobbled up all the other stories/books of Nocturne Falls.
This is the first story I have read from Sela Carsen. She is a good writer; I’m glad that Kristen Painter has opened her universe to other authors – it give me a chance to try someone new while being ‘safe’ in a world I know I like. The facts all fit with the Nocturne Falls story line and the writing style is similar the story could have been written by Kristen Painter herself. It was a cute fast story with a “5 months later” to wrap things up and give a closing/ending. My only gripe is that this is so short, to fast to really develop the people and form any connection - I am removing a star for this reason... Mrs. Carson could have extended the story by a couple of chapters, maybe to 100 pages or so and I likely would have felt very different. I almost never purchase books less are less 100 pages that cost more than $1 - this was both more expensive and shorter than my 'normal'. I wouldn't have purchased it had it not been a part of the NF Universe that said it was a good addition to my collection.
Very nicely crafted short story. This NF Universe story does touch on characters from the main series briefly so feels more "part of the whole" than some of the others have. Very enjoyable characters and story.
Perfect addition to the Nocturne Universe. The romance and laughter are the perfect mix in this book! I can see the characters living in the town and having lunch with the original characters that Kristen Painter created. Like any good book, the characters are well developed, the hero is handsome and the villain in the book is easily disliked.
This was my first book by Sela Carsen. Daria and Trick's story, set in the Nocturne Falls Universe created by Kristen Painter, was a lovely addition to a great series. Sela did a great job of seamlessly integrating her story into the Nocture Falls town. We are exposed to interesting new characters in this lighthearted story - a rusalka (NOT a Mermaid!!), a kelpie, and a....well, to tell you will spoil the story. You'll just have to read it!
What's not to love! Kristrn Painter and Sela Carsen should both be proud! Kristen chose a talented author to expand the world of Nocturne Falls, and Sela did a brilliant job of seamlessly expanding our knowledge of the citizens (and denizens!) of our favorite, "Trick AND Treat Town!" I don't think there are enough exclamation marks in the world to expess how enthusiastic I am about this book! Fans of the series, be assured you will love Sela's additions to our beloved burg as if they leapt from Kristen's own genius!
This was a good read. Quick, but the author's voice was true to the Nocturne Falls world, and the story was well grounded in both the town and the characters right off the bat, and felt authentic. I liked all the characters. And it was good.
If the book had any flaws its that it felt like the author was hampered by the limited length restrictions. I think she would be able to write a much stronger book if she was allowed to right a full length novel and really flesh out the stories and the characters.
I hope the author enjoyed this and keeps writing books in this world.
What's not to love about this story? It hits all the right notes for me with a nod to my all time favorite fairy tale, The Little Mermaid. There's even a quip nodded toward the 19th century Danish author, however Carsen might want a better spell check editor on the name Hans Christian Andersen (a pet peeve of mine since I bear the same Danish surname) In the book she opts (or oversights) for the more common spelling of Anderson, perhaps in this Nocturne Falls universe it's a completely fictional author by this name and not the one I know so well? Also, the history nerd in me twitched a bit at a reference to a Nocturne Falls witch who escaped being burned at the stake in Salem's witch hunt. Um... no one was burned at the stake in 17th century America. All were hanged and one was pressed to death under rocks. But aside from that, the story was a fun easy read with a sweet romance between two adorable protags. It was my first dive into this universe which I've heard many good things about and was not disappointed.
5/5
